Overview
Most ARIA causes no symptoms and resolves after pausing treatment, but it can occasionally be serious, which is why scheduled MRI monitoring is mandatory.
Types
- ARIA-E: swelling or fluid accumulation
- ARIA-H: small bleeds or iron deposits
Monitoring
- Baseline MRI before starting
- Scheduled MRIs during the early months of treatment
- Additional MRI whenever symptoms develop
Symptoms to report immediately
- Headache, confusion, or new dizziness
- Visual changes
- Nausea or vomiting
- Weakness, difficulty walking, or seizure
