Overview

The most useful preparation is a written record of what changed, when it started, and how it affects daily tasks.

Before the visit

  • Write a timeline with specific examples and dates
  • Gather medications, supplements, and prior test results
  • List your top three questions
  • Arrange for a family member to attend
  • Schedule at the person's best time of day

During the visit

  • Take notes or ask permission to record
  • Ask for the diagnosis in plain language and in writing
  • Ask what to expect over the next year
  • Ask what to do if behavior changes suddenly
