Overview
Neuropsychological testing is especially useful for early or ambiguous cases, younger patients, highly educated patients, and situations involving work capacity or legal questions.
When it is recommended
- Screening results are borderline
- Depression or anxiety may explain symptoms
- Distinguishing between dementia types
- Baseline before treatment or before a major life decision
- Capacity and driving questions
What to expect
- Two to five hours of paper, verbal, and computer tasks
- Interview with a family member
- A written report with recommendations, typically in a few weeks
